Assessment of Undiscovered Oil and Gas Resources of the Devonian Marcellus Shale of the Appalachian Basin Province, 2011
August 15, 2011Does an Old EPA Fracking Study Provide Proof of Contamination?
August 16, 2011This list includes some 4,722 old oil and gas wells that NY DEC would plug if only they had the resources.
Of course, why New York should be burdened with these messes left behind by oil and gas companies remains an unanswered question.
The list includes well names & numbers, depths, company names, and longitude-latitude coordinates. Significant numbers of them are situated in Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates Counties.

Abandoned Wells PAGE 125
In this passage, the E.P.A. notes that abandoned oil and natural gas wells can be conduits for fluids like drilling wastewater to migrate up to freshwater aquifers. The graphic on the next page illustrates this potential.
