The Marcellus Shale bill (HB 1950), that members of the State House and Senate could be voting on today or tomorrow, is harmful in a variety of ways.
- This bill ties the hands of local elected officials on zoning decisions related to shale gas operations such as wells, pipelines, compressor stations, and chemical and waste storage, even forcing local officials to allow drilling in residential areas;
- It sets one of the lowest gas impact fee rates in the nation – lower than Texas, Wyoming and Arkansas;
- It includes weak environmental provisions that do not go far enough to protect our environment and public health from the effects of Marcellus Shale gas drilling and operations.
Please contact your PA legislators TODAY and tell them to VOTE NO on this terrible bill. They need to do better to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of this state.
