Carlucci urges fracking study after PA visit

Westchestesr/Rockland Newsday reports on a trip NY State Senator David Carlucci took to view hydrofracking sites in PA, a trip that has increased his determination to push a bill he has introduced to delay any permits on hydrofracking until three studies on health and environmental impacts have been completed.

Following a trip to hydrofracking sites in Pennsylvania last week, state Sen. David Carlucci said he will push even harder for health and environmental studies to be conducted in New York.

Carlucci (D-Rockand/Orange) toured drilling sites in Montrose, a small borough in a county of 32,000 people, and heard from local homeowners whose lives have been disrupted by the controversial method of obtaining natural gas.

“I visited with families that have lost their water supply because of contamination,” Carlucci told Newsday on Saturday. “They’re getting water delivered every day so they could live a decent quality of life.”…

Last month, Carlucci introduced a bill in the State Senate that calls for the halt of hydrofracking for 24 months to allow three studies to be completed, including one by the Environmental Protection Agency and a Geisinger Health System study. The bill is being reviewed by the State Senate’s rules committee.
