Fracking vs Food: NY's Choice
May 30, 2013"FrackNation" Deploys Tobacco Playbook in Response to "Gasland 2"
June 4, 2013The call-in day is set for June 5th to PA State Senators to stress support of a moratorium on gas and oil drilling using hydraulic fracturing. Did you know that recent polls show that 59% of Pennsylvanians view fracking as a major risk to water resources? On June 5, call to urge your Senator to sign on as a co-sponsor for the bill that would put a temporary stop to fracking in PA.
A few weeks ago, groups and concerned citizens from around the state delivered 100,000 petition signatures calling for fracking to be halted in Pennsylvania. We brought box after box of signatures directly to Governor Corbett’s office.
But that was just the beginning. To beat the gas industry, we are going to have to really turn up the pressure on our legislators. A call to your State Senator probably takes less than two minutes. But in that time, you can join concerned citizens across the state who are calling their Senator in support of a moratorium on fracking.
If you do not know who your State Senator is, find out by using this map, then look up their contact information here. Or you can search for your Senator by address or county here.
Your call can be brief. Just say:
“Hi, I’m (NAME) from (CITY), and I’m calling to urge the senator to oppose fracking for oil and natural gas. I want him to support a moratorium on fracking. Thank you!”
Want to say more? Try these handy talking points:
- A recent poll showed the majority of Pennsylvanians support a moratorium on fracking.
- Fracking for natural gas is not “clean energy.” In fact, fracking worsens climate change while polluting our water and air.
- Fracking a single well uses millions of gallons of water and dozens of toxic chemicals.
- People who live near fracking sites often get sick from contaminated water and air.
- Fracking is too dangerous and regulations are not being enforced; PA needs a moratorium. We should also stop the export of natural gas from fracking.
