Big Win for the Environment in Montana
September 5, 2023Community Members Rally to End Fossil Fuels
September 18, 2023On Sunday, September 17th, a broad coalition of over 1,200 climate and environmental justice groups is planning a massive demonstration in NYC during the United Nations Climate Action Summit. There will be a week of action prior to the march, with events happening all across the country. Additional events are planned by Extinction Rebellion NYC.
The coalition is calling on President Biden to:
- Stop all federal approvals for new fossil fuel projects and repeal permits for climate bombs like the Willow project and Alaska LNG.
- Phase out fossil fuel production on our public lands and waters.
- Declare a climate emergency to halt oil exports and investments in fossil fuel projects abroad, AND lead a just transition to clean, community-centered energy at home.
Marchers will gather in NYC at W 56th Street and Broadway between 12 and 1pm. The march will start at 1 pm and will proceed cross town to 1st Ave and 50th Street, near UN headquarters, for a rally. The rally will end around 4:30pm.
Options for getting to the march can be found here. There are many buses being organized, some carpools and, of course, public transportation. You can sign up for the march and someone will be in touch to get you plugged in.
Locally, there will be a rally at the Narrowsburg bridge on September 17 from noon to 3 pm.
DCS has been a leader in the protest against, and education about, fracking and fossil fuels. DCS has a storefront on Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY and is a sponsor of the community demonstration that will take place on the bridge. Please bring your signs protesting reliance on fossil fuels, advocating sustainability, accountability, environmental justice, etc.
