Community Voices on the Skinners Falls Bridge

In January 2020, the late Ed Wesely sat with me, a WJFF volunteer with Radio Catskill, and recorded an audio interview for the show “Farm & Country”.

That interview aired on February 1, 2020 on wjffradio.org

Ed lived in Damascus Pa, and for 35 years served as a community member on several initiatives that included a compilation of facts and images of the Milanville historic district.

The Skinners Falls Bridge is located in Milanville, Pa. and was placed on the National Register of historic places for its outstanding structural qualities, in a setting of remarkable natural beauty in the landscape setting of the Upper Delaware River.

Our recorded conversation included a discussion about the Skinners Falls Bridge, built in 1902 and located in Milanville Pa.

This historic structure is under the jurisdiction of PennDOT; The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
PennDot closed the bridge to vehicular and pedestrian traffic several times in recent years for inspections; but in 2019; it was closed and never reopened.

That bridge served as a crossing between the Milanville, PA and Cochecton, NY communities.

For 5 years, residents and visitors have communicated to PennDot that they wanted the Skinners Falls Bridge to be restored, maintained and continue to serve the community.

This 63 minutes of audio represents a sample of how community members feel about the historic Skinners Falls Bridge and its proposed demolition by PennDot.
